"Whatever you do, you have to do it properly."

In 1955 Bruce Stewart and his best mate Lance Calder had the chance to build a house not far out of Milton. When they started out, Bruce Stewart had little idea that 65 years on Calder Stewart would employ a team of over 400 and be seen as an innovative leader in construction.

It's an extraordinary legacy, built on old fashioned family values and a humble leadership style. When reflecting on his legacy, Bruce Stewart was always grateful that he had a good start in life and was supported to pursue his dreams. He often spoke of his commitment to the community and throughout his lifetime was an extensive contributor to and supporter of the Tokomairiro region. At the time of his passing, Bruce still lived not far from the first home he built in Milton sixty-odd years ago.

Leadership takes many forms and for Bruce Stewart it focused on relationships, opportunities, and believing that "Whatever you do, you have to do it properly." It is with this in mind that the Bruce Stewart Leadership Programme supports the next generation of Tokomairiro leaders and continues Mr. Stewart's legacy.
