A legacy to inspire excellence

Mr. Bruce Stewart was an avid supporter of the Tokomairiro region during his life. This programme has been developed to honour his legacy and support the people from the Tokomairiro region in learning and leadership.

Programme Objectives

The Bruce Stewart Leadership Programme aims to support future leaders of the Tokomairiro region in business, arts, culture, health and community.

Programme Details

Grants are awarded annually in May and October and the applications are open during the year, outside of December 15 to January 15 when there is a programme break.

Eligibility Region

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for the Bruce Stewart Leadership Fund, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  1. Specifically seeking support for leadership development
  2. A New Zealand resident
  3. Aged 13 years and over
  4. Residing within the eligibility region based on the following definitions: 
  • Currently residing - your current place of residence is within the region
  • Primarily residing - you primarily reside within the region but are temporarily living outside the region (for example at boarding school)
  • Family residence - family residence is within the region, but you are currently living outside the region (for example at university)
  • Connected to the region - you can explain your connection to the region in your application form

Funding Details

Type of funding

The Bruce Stewart Leadership Programme is a yearly monetary fund for the benefit of the people of the Tokomairiro region. The annual programme funding of $50,000 aims to promote leadership development and excellence. Applications are assessed and granted based on eligibility and strength of application. 

Application dates

The programme accepts applications throughout the year, excluding a closedown period of 15 December to 15 January. 

Selection process

The selection process is undertaken by the Stewart Family Board. 

Notification

A representative of the Board will formally notify the successful and unsuccessful applicants within one month of the closing date.

Payment and use

The Stewart Family Office will make payment to the successful applicant(s) upon receipt of account information. Funds can be used for the approved leadership activity submitted via the application process.

Reporting

Successful applicants are required to report back on progress and outcomes to the Stewart Family Board. Written progress reports are requested within six months of receiving funding. In addition, some applicants will be asked to speak at the yearly Stewart Family Assembly.
